This song is about my mother losing her custody battle in Oklahoma for her only son, me (Kenneth). As I grew up I would hear stories about how awful the 16 hour drive back to her hometown of McAllen, Texas was for her. The drive almost killed her and the only solace she had was knowing that her 'golden-haired son' would soon grow up like a flower nourished by the storm of life.

Lyrics

No one there really wants you
golden-haired son, surprisd?
a broken petaled marigold
leaving south for a drive.
headlights aimed away from hands
wrapped around old memories
Oklahoma's breathing down your neck
a catatonic death grip.

Marigold (Marigold)
You're beautiful
on your own
praying for your son to grow
Marigold
you're beautiful
on your own
waiting for the sun grow

Dust to dawn
with tears to lick
gasoline is a new ring to kiss
but flowers lean towards the sunrise
and salvation comes with rays in bloom.

Marigold
you're beautiful
on your own
Praying for your son to grow.
Marigold
you're beautiful
and on your own
waiting for the sun to grow
